After cats, rabbits, owls..., here come the adorable piglets! A micro-pig café opened in November 2019 on a backstreet of one of Tokyo’s most fashionable areas, Harajuku - Omotesando. Mipig café Harajuku is home to mini-pigs weighing less than 11 pounds each. The piglets at Mipig can grow to about 88 pounds, whereas regular pigs can get much bigger in later life to weigh 660 pounds. Friendly piggies run around freely and let themselves be petted. Visitors are advised to wait calmly to let the piglets come to them and climb on top of their legs. Minimum one drink order is requested (it’s a café!). Guests are asked to sanitise their hands when they arrive. Swine fever is spreading in Japan and ASF is propagating throughout Asia, therefore people who have been to the countries such as China, Vietnam, Laos or South Korea (where contaminations have been reported) within a week before visiting the café are not allowed to enter. This is also the case with people who have contacted any pigs in Japan within 2 days prior to their visit. 2019 is the year of the Pig according to the Oriental zodiac. As a final twist to wrap up the year, why don’t you visit the place and have fun with these cuddly critters? Happy holidays to you all!
