The crisp air and clear skies of winter offer great opportunities to see Diamond Fuji, a rare natural phenomenon in which the sunrise and sunset align perfectly with Mt. Fuji’s peak, shining bright like a dazzling diamond for a brief moment. This phenomenon occurs throughout the year, but its beautiful sight is best observed during only a few weeks from January to February at the foot of the sacred mountain. The north shore of Lake Yamanaka-ko is one of the most famous vantage points to witness both the setting sun Diamond Fuji and Beni-Fuji that is visible when the snow-capped summit is veiled in flamingo pink at sunrise. The rising sun Diamond Fuji can be observed almost all year round from Asagiri-kogen Highland, about 10km west of the mountain. Note that the latter location is difficult to reach with public transport. Come and take in the truly magnificent experience, Diamond Fuji! The website below (only in Japanese) offers very detailed information about when and where to best view the phenomenon. Use a translator app. https://fujisantotomoni.jp/calendar/
