We will see the first bloom of cherry blossoms in Tokyo, hopefully in another week. The cherry blossom front map is mostly based on predictions for “Somei-yoshino”, the most common variety of all Japanese cherry trees. Its blooms last for a maximum of 2 weeks, then comes a series of colorful spring flowers. The video below showcases the changing beauty of seasonal flowers and nature in Japan. Enjoy this Japanese flower trail with us!
Below is the latest cherry blossom forecast (sakura calendar 2019) released on March 14 by the Japan Weather Association. Below are the expected dates of blooming. In Tokyo, sakura blooms are predicted to open around March 21, about a week earlier than average.
!! It is important to note that temperatures, rain and wind may affect the cherry blossom period across Japan. The dates largely depend on the weather during the last few weeks before blooming. We will be tracking the progress of the cherry blossom front.
