Spring has finally come ! Cherry blossoms (type: Kanzakura) at the entrance of Ueno Park have been in full bloom for the last few days. Today, the start of cherry blossom season 2019 was declared by the officials from the Japan Meteorological Agency. Somei-yoshino, the most common variety of cherry trees in Japan, are expected to be in full bloom in a week or so. Meanwhile, we suggest you a visit for this weekend to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden where beautiful weeping cherry trees will reach full bloom a little earlier than the other major varieties. Please join us for the “Hanami day tour”.
Below is the latest cherry blossom forecast (sakura calendar 2019) released on March 20 by the Japan Weather Association. They are the expected dates of blooming. In Tokyo, sakura blooms are predicted to be at their best around March 29, about five days earlier than average.
!! It is important to note that temperatures, rain and wind may affect the cherry blossom period across Japan. The dates largely depend on the weather during the last few weeks before blooming. We will be tracking the progress of the cherry blossom front.
