Warmer temperatures in March may advance blooming of Sakura
posted on March 2, 2023
In Japan, this winter saw some record-breaking cold temperatures, and also extremely strong cold waves brought quite a lot of snow to the regions that normally receive little snow. But the low temperature in winter is actually thought to be favorable for the early-blooming of the cherry blossoms. Now high temperature is expected in March across Japan, which may significantly advance the blooming date of the cherry trees. Tokyo can see the first bloom 6 to 7 days earlier than average. Kawazuzakura, an early bloomer with deep-pink petals, are already in full bloom in many areas of Kanto region. Below is the latest cherry blossom forecast (based on the blooming of Somei-Yoshino) released by the Japan Weather Association.
!! It is important to note that temperatures, rain and wind may affect the cherry blossom period across Japan. The dates largely depend on the weather during the last few weeks before blooming.
